Abalone Sage Wand

Made with abalone shell, deer antler, and deer hide.
Dimensions: L 8.5" W 7.5" H 8.5"

A popular design of the indigenous Chumash people of Southern California. For generations, the Chumash people have maintained a profound, reciprocal relationship with the Pacific Ocean and its abundant marine life.

Abalone held a place of high reverence within their culture, utilized for intricate shell ornamentation, currency, and sacred ceremonies. Using an abalone shell to hold burning sage is a powerful way to connect with these ancestral lands and traditions.

In many Indigenous practices, the four elements are represented during smudging: the shell represents water, the sage represents earth, the flame represents fire, and the rising smoke represents air.

All dimensions are approximate. Due to the organic shape and handcrafted nature of this piece, measurements may vary slightly.
